Travellers Rest Farm Sanctuary has given permanent homes to many horses over the years. Our sanctuary horses never leave the farm and remain with us until their passing. Some only stay a short time while others are with us for many years. During their time with us they receive 365/24/7 access to hay, shelter and water. They also receive medical and farrier treatment as needed along with daily feedings. All the horses bring something unique to the farm and despite how long they stayed leave imprints on our heart.
KnightAtTheCasino is a 2000 model California bred Thoroughbred with 17 starts to his resume. He was found at a broken lot near Pittsburgh, Pa and knowing our fondness for blind horses we were asked to help. He arrived at the farm in December 2021. He is 100% blind, and is stabled next to, but separately from Tehcumseh.
Tehcumseh is an aged appaloosa gelding that arrived in September 2018. Due to his eye issue he was scheduled to be euthanized, but shorty after arrival his damaged eye was removed. He has since gone blind and relies on Winnie, his seeing eye mini.
Rose Run Belle is a 2007 model registered Standardbred mare by ARMBRO LASER out of SPEED TRACKER that came to reside with us in May 2021 when her owner lost her farm and had to relocate. She and her sister Raven made the trip from Maine and now they share their days with their herd mates Harley and Sam.
Eclipse is a teenage appendix mare that arrived in March 2021. She was pulled from the kill pen very sick and emaciated. She is very sweet and gentle. She spends her days with her best friend Bodhi.
Blue Rock Fannie is a 2002 model registered Standardbred mare by JACKIE'S CAM out of LUCE HANOVER that came from the kill pen. She was in horrible shape and battled through an illness and severe malnourishment to make her arrival in February 2020 with another Standardbred named Slick Chin.
Ginger is an aged Haflinger mare that arrived in December 2018 - that year's Christmas Pen Pull. Ginger was bearing several tags, but having meds in her system earned her a sprayed on green X - meaning she couldn't ship. It saved her life. Her left front ankle is deformed from injury - some days are better than others - she carries on as a sweet gorgeous lawn ornament.
Lucy is an aged gaited mare that arrived February 2017. It took the effort of many people on a snowy day to get her pulled from the kill pen. She arrived beaten, battered, and fearful of humans. To this day, she remains weary but we’ve gained her trust and she now allows us to safely handle, love, and blanket her.
Luna is a teenage appendix mare that was pulled from the kill pen severely underweight. She arrived November 2020 just in time to lift Scooter's spirits after he lost his previous field mate, and bestie - Decade. She is fiercely protective of him and never leaves his side.
Nana is an appaloosa mare that had to be someone's pet at one point. Sadly it didn't spare her a trip to the kill pen and a battle with an illness. She won and is happy and healthy. She arrived in October 2020 and resides with Luna and Scooter.
Cranmeadow Raven is a registered Standardbred mare that came to reside with us in May 2021 when her owner lost her farm and had to relocate. She and her sister Belle made the trip from Maine and now share their days with their herd mates Harley and Sam.
Turbo was an owner surrender that arrived in April 2021. She is still 100% sound and rideable, but has decided she was done with that job thereby forcing her retirement. She resides with her boyfriend, Grey in their private paddock.
In February 2020 we welcomed "Eighty Bucks" into our farm family. Tragically his owner was hit by a car, was sent to shock trauma in Baltimore, and still recovering from her ordeal. His owner is a long time friend, and the family graciously agreed to let us oversee his care. We couldn't be more honored.
Bettis is an aged Standardbred gelding that arrived in 2006. He was an Amish cart horse that had fallen on the asphalt and hurt his left knee rendering him no longer useful to his family so he was sent to auction. He was an Amish cart horse that had fallen on the asphalt and hurt his left knee rendering him no longer useful to his family so he was sent to auction. He was tagged, and loaded on a truck bound for Mexico, but fell in the truck. The fall left him bruised and battered. Pen owners decided he wasn’t worth the trouble and were “going to take him out back.” He was discovered standing in a corner, and we were called and asked if we would get him out and give him a safe landing. He's been with us ever since and his fully recovered from his ordeal.
In March 2021 our "poop pony" arrived at the farm with his best friend Eclipse. He was pulled from the kill pen covered in caked on manure (he must have been living and sleeping in it). Under his matted coat was oozing sores. He is 100% and happily spending his days with his best girl.
Bond was on the kill pen and posted for networking on another site. We found out he had been tagged and was scheduled to ship for slaughter so the panic set in and frantic calls were made, but we managed to keep him off the truck. He arrived in December 2021 where he will remain.
Slick Chin is a 1997 model registered Standardbred gelding. He was pulled from the kill pen with a puncture wound on his back leg, had scars and cuts from being bitten and kicked, and was emaciated; his body scale a 2. He was an Amish horse dumped after he was no longer useful to his "family". Another 24 hours and he may not have made it. He arrived at the farm in February 2020.
Jonah is a 30 year old gaited gelding dropped off at the kill pen with a note about how well he served his family. He is neurologic and was driven like that, but he gets around and he's happy and healthy. He arrived in July 2021 and resides with Athena and Puck in their private paddock.

Trooper was a "free to a good home" listing. He had limited time and was bound for auction if no one took him. He has some back end issues, but he's eased into his new life with great joy. Every meal is an event for him and he embraces every bite. He comes when called and gives wonderful good morning and good evening greetings when he sees people coming and going. He arrived in October 2019.
C'est La Guerre "Unusual" never had a racing career but was a beloved school horse that ending up in the kill pen. He's been with us since 2015.

Delilah, aged (30s) bay mini mare, arrived in September 2019. She was pulled at the last minute from a pen in PA. The timing for the lot of horses being sold that week was up and we couldn’t leave her behind. She has a wonderful spirit despite all her health issues; she suffers from a mild case of heaves, has sore feet from a previous founder, and is recovering from some sores received from laying down so much without enough padding to cover her bones.

Meet FOX! He is a tiny sweet mini with an old hind leg fracture. The vet said there is some scar tissue, so it's old, but still not 100% stable. He is still in tact so when it's safe we'll have him castrated. We don't know where he came from or anything about his past life, but we know he's very easy to work with and a friendly happy attitude.
Kringle, aged (mid-late 20s) chestnut pony, arrived in December 2016. Kringle was our Christmas pony. He was found in the pens being weighed and tagged for shipment. Kringle, aged (mid-late 20s) chestnut pony, arrived in December 2016. Kringle was our Christmas pony. He was found in the pens being weighed and tagged for shipment. We were called and asked if we would be willing to bail him because they weren’t allowing him any more time and he was leaving in the morning. Well we couldn’t’ let his Christmas be ruined so we got a shipper to pick him and he spent Christmas in a cozy quarantine stall. Much like his pal Max he is untrusting of humans so they are the perfect companions.
Max, aged (mid-late 20s) rotten grey pony, arrived in April 2017. He arrived malnourished and has clearly been abused. We slowly introduced grain and got his weight back up. Sadly, the years of abuse have stayed with him and he is untrusting of humans, so he resides in a pony field with his best pony friend Kringle.

Ms. Nutmeg came to us from Moore's pen. We noticed her during a live video of the pen and called right away. She was tucked in a small pen with other minis. Both her stifles lock but she gets around without much discomfort and has found comfort and a best mama in Delilah; she never leaves her side.
