Meet Our Residents
Travellers Rest Farm Sanctuary has given permanent homes to many horses over the years. Our sanctuary horses never leave the farm and remain with us until their passing. Some only stay for a short time, while others stay with us for many years. During their time with us, they receive 365/24/7 access to hay, shelter, and water. They also receive medical and farrier treatment as needed, along with daily feedings. All the horses bring something unique to the farm and leave imprints on our hearts despite how long they stay. We remember and miss each one. #inmemory
Surrender A Horse
We accept owner surrenders when space allows. Owners understand that they are giving up all rights, titles, interests, and possession of said horse, regardless of the delivery or non-delivery of registration papers, to this horse voluntarily and without coercion or threats of any kind and with reliance on any representations, guarantees, or warranties of any kind from anyone, whether verbal or written. The Owner further understands that all future decisions regarding this horse's care and treatment will be at the sole discretion of TRFS. All surrenders are final after the Owner's relinquishment. You will no longer be responsible for the horse in any way nor have any legal claim to the horse/animal.
OUR BLIND RESIDENTS
Cupcake and Rosie
Cupcake is an aged mini mare who arrived in September 2022. Her family was no longer able to care for her "special" needs and medical necessities. She is 100% blind, previously foundered, and has cushings. She requires special grain, spring full-body clippings, and frequent farrier care. She resides with her seeing-eye donkey, Rosie.

KnightAtTheCasino "Knight" is a 2000 model California-bred Thoroughbred with 17 starts to his resume. He was found in December 2021 at a broker lot in Canfield, OH. He is 100% blind and resides with his seeing-eye mini, Fox. Little is known about his past, but he loves people and greeting guests.

Amelia is a mid-teen mini who arrived in December 2021. She is very friendly, loves people, and is always the first in line for dinner.

Thea spent her first years here as a companion to Jonah. Sadly, he passed, but happily eats side by side with her new pasture mate, Halo. Thea is very wary of people, so we spend time with her on her terms.

Ellie is an aged, SWEET, one-eyed mini mare. She doesn't like to be handled, but she always welcomes us with a lovely song.

Elsa was pulled from the local Amish auction. She was run through with no bidders besides the meat man, so we bought her and brought her home. She is a wonderfully vocal girl who will converse, especially at dinner time.

Fox is the Seeing Eye bestie for Knight. He has an old hind leg fracture, but gets around with no problems. He is friendly but sassy.

Hotshot arrived with Sally. His weight has been holding steady, but recently his health has declined, so he's been put on a supportive diet and requires specialty care.

Kringle was a Christmas pull. He was loaded onto the scales and weighed for shipment that night, when we got a call to help. He isn't a fan of being messed with, but he lets us pet him. We make progress daily.

Minnie is a very nice mare who loves attention. She spends her days with Amelia. She is always the first to try and sneak out of the field when the gate opens.

Nutmeg is a stunning mini mare with a flowing mane. She came to us with a hind end condition; her stifles lock. She was treated very poorly at some point and prefers her herd over humans.

Odi was an owner surrender to our local shelter. We were asked to take him, and he was best friends with Dash. He loves people and always welcomes attention.

Rose Run Belle is by ARMBRO LASER out of SPEED TRACKER. Her owner lost her farm in Maine and had to relocate. She and her sister Raven made the trip south and now they share their days with their herd mates Harley and Sam.

Della Belle (L) is a Texas bred by DEPENDABLE. She was dumped at an auction and bought by a dealer. She has a dental disease that resulted in having all her front teeth pulled to alleviate her pain. Her grain has to be soaked. She is currently underweight and requires specialty care.

Bettis was an Amish cart horse that had fallen on the asphalt and hurt his left knee rendering him no longer useful to his family, so he was sent to auction. Bought by a kill buyer he was tagged and loaded on a truck bound for Mexico. He fell in the truck leaving him bruised and battered. Pen owner

Pen owners decided he wasn’t worth the trouble and were “going to take him out back.” He was discovered standing in a corner, and we were called and asked if we would get him out and give him a safe landing. He's been with us ever since and his fully recovered from his ordeal.

Our "poop pony" arrived at the farm with his best friend Eclipse. He was pulled from the kill pen covered in caked on manure (he must have been living and sleeping in it). Under his matted coat was oozing sores. He is 100% and happily spending his days with his best girl.

Bond was in the kill pen and posted for networking on another site. We found out he had been tagged and was scheduled to ship for slaughter so the panic set in and frantic calls were made, but we managed to keep him off the truck.

This Dutch harness horse was sold at auction and bought by a good Samaritan who found themselves over their head with his care. He arrived several hundred pounds underweight and requires specialty care.

We welcomed "Eighty Bucks" into our farm family. Tragically his owner was hit by a car, was sent to shock trauma in Baltimore, and still recovering from her ordeal. His owner is a long time friend, and the family graciously agreed to let us oversee his care. We couldn't be more honored.
